Romanian New Right protest against police-state
Noua Dreapta (New Right) answered to the call of Father Iustin Parvu, well known Christian Orthodox priest from the monastery of Petru Voda, and on Sunday, the 1st of February 2009, it organised in Bucharest, together with other associations united under the banner of “The Coalitions Against a Police State”, the first people’s gathering in order to protest against biometric chips and against total surveillance of telecommunications.
More exactly, the target of the protest is Governmental Decision 1566/15.12.2008 regarding the new passports that will contain electronic chips with biometrical data and the Law 298/1008 regarding the registration and storing of all electronic communications.
The gathering took place at Dealul Patriarhiei and brought together over 500 resolute people to protest against a government which, affected by the global recession, managed to squeeze more than 1 billion Euro out of the budget for implementing this advance method of controlling individuals.
The protest was covered by most of the TV stations and newspapers.
